Hello Internet!

At long last, the Wichita Work Camp website is up & running.  We are thrilled to have an internet presence.  If you you are a church and are planning to join us for WWC 08, we'd love it if you would link to our site.  Email us at info@wichitaworkcamp.org and we'll send you our logo!

Hope that you'll take a look around.  You can download forms, register online, get your questions answered, see the schedule, get updates and even look at whose coming!

That's right.  Wichita Workcamp if officially BIGTIME.  (Well, we had to pay money to do it, but we are still BIGTIME).  Wichita Workcamp is coming live to the Tulsa International Soul Winning Workshop (www.tulsaisww.com).

Anyway, we are at booth #923.  So, stop by and say hello.  Register for a T-Shirt.  Pickup some cool freebies.  Stand in amazement at our excessively cool booth.

Hope to see you there!

Sorry for the radio-silence.  We've been feverishly working on getting our materials ready for Tulsa.  We are also going to be sharing a booth with another great ministry known as Women Walking with God (www.womenwalkingwithgod.org).  If you have two X chromosomes, you really should come to this.  It's a 1st class women's conference.  Great speakers.  Christian comedy.  Inspiring & uplifting singing.  It's got all that and a bag of chips!

Oh, and we're going to have a table there too!  So, if you're coming, be sure to stop by and get some information.

In a late-breaking development, we have just found out that we will have a table at the Kansas City area Leadership Training for Christ this weekend (www.hoaltc.org).  LTC is a pretty big deal for a lot of churches.  It is a chance for kids & teenagers from all over to prepare for ministry & works of service.  It happens every year at several satellite locations across the country (Phoenix, Dallas, Little Rock, Kansas City and many more).

In any case, if you are coming to KC LTC this weekend, please stop by.

Exciting news on the speaker front!

How do you say excellence in two words?  Mitch Wilburn

Mitch is officially coming up to WWC to inspire us after a long day of service.  If you've never heard Mitch, you owe it to yourself to come.  You won't be sorry you did.

I have in my hands the our final promotional video.  It really look great!  If you come see us at LTC, Tulsa or WWWG, you'll see it.  We may even be sending it to a mailbox near you!

I will try to upload it to the site.  If it's too big, it may take a few days.

Oh, and mega-kudos and thanks to MC2 Imaging here in Wichita.  They put in a lot of extra time and effort to make it good.  If you have any video or photography needs for an event, I highly recommend them!  And even if you don't, their site is a lot of fun.  Check it out at www.mc2imaging.com

April 24th, 2008

OK.  Well, the video didn't get uploaded.  However, we did mail it out to almost everyone on our mailing list.  So, if you don't have one, let me know.  It's very catchy...that song will run in your head all day!

I know it's been a while since we updated on here.  The main reason is because we are busily preparing for your arrival.  Besides getting the word out about WWC, we are getting worksites, working on recreation activities (see below), and arranging meals & housing.  We are excited to hear about churches that are coming.  Some with groups of 3, others with groups of 30.  No matter your size, we are thrilled if you can come.

One exciting development we are working on is arranging special recreation options exclusively for WWC workers and sponsors.  We hope to have several options around wichita where you can go, show your WWC ID and get in free!  It will be a great reward to those of who that have worked so hard to serve others.  We are looking at options that include bowling, skating, laserquest, etc.

In any case, don't forget that REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE NEXT WEDNESDAY, APRIL 30th.  We do want everyone to come, but we can't keep it open indefinitely.  We'll need time to plan housing, meals, supplies, etc., etc.  So, please be sure to get your registration done online or postmarked by April 30th.

Some questions that have come up concerning registration...

1.  What if I have kids that want to come or drop out after the deadline?  Once they are registered, we will not refund their registration fees.  All fees are used to purchase what we need for them to come.  If a kid wants to drop out after the deadline and another kid wants to fill their spot, that is fine.  But, you have to work out the payment details between them.  We are planning  based on the total number of people registered.

2.  What if I am the only teen in our group?  Do I really need a van & trailer???  Our requirement on transportation is only to ensure that all groups have adequate means of transporting themselves from our building to the worksites and back.  In most cases, we will need you to bring a van and a trailer/pickup truck.  However, in certain circumstances like this, we can probably put you with another team.  If that is the case, you must make prior arrangements by contacting us (info@wichitaworkcamp.org or 316.838.5200) so that we will know ahead of time.  Please don't put things in a bind by assuming we will work it out after your arrival.  If we have a team of 17 people but only one van, then we have a problem.

3. What do we do if our church doesn't have a youth minister?  The good news is you really don't need one to do WWC.  What you need is at least 1 adult for every 5 teens you bring.  While this may require some people to take off work, remember that the work we are doing has some risk to it and that we MUST have adequate adult supervision. To put it in mathematical terms:  20 teens + 1 adult + 10 gallons of paint = trouble!

All very good questions and hopefully we have answered them.  If not, or if you have any other questions, PLEASE let us know by phone or email.

Until then...get your registration in....the clock is ticking...

June 2, 2008

At long last, the big week is here!  We've praying & planning for this week for some time.  And here we are!!

I've never lived in a beehive.  But, if I did, I imagine it's pretty close to what's going on around here.  As I am typing this, ladders and supplies are being moved, staging is being set up, signs are being posted, lanyards are being made, and food is being prepared...all in preparation for our guests both from inside Wichita and outside Wichita.  To those of you traveling from Oklahoma & Nebraska, we hope you drive safely and have a very "uneventful" trip here. We have about 50 teen workers this week and more adults sponsors and volunteers than I can count...many working behind the scenes.

WWC 2008 kicks off tonight at 5pm!  Hope to see YOU there!

And what a week it was!!

WOW!  What a group of workers!

We got all 5 homes scraped, painted and revitalized by today.  A few even got done a little early.

We're all a little tired, a little weary and now have 3-4 "not-fit-for-wearing-in-public" shirts due to being covered in paint.  We even survived the pretty wicked weather on Thursday--thankfully God sent it AFTER we were done painting.

We made a couple of the evening news shows, and even won the Community Impact Award from 90.7 WAY-FM.  And the stories just keep coming in of the impact we've made on our homeowners and their friends & neighbors.  It's not why we do it all of course, but it's cool to watch God be lifted up through the actions of His servants.

Tonight, we have the banquet for the homeowners and get to see some of the fruits of our labors in the final video.  It will be the great end to an amazing week.  Overall, it was  very impactful and a great success.
